Thunder

Thunder is a striking 8yo Registered Quarter Horse who came to the Rescue in June of this year (2025) from an owner surrender in Colorado. He was born and raised on a working ranch in Colorado, where he spent his early years helping with the daily ranch operations. Following the winter of 2024, his owners noticed him moving more slowly. After a veterinary exam, it was revealed that he has sustained small fractures in both front legs, likely from getting caught up in a cattle guard. Due to these injuries, Thunder would no longer be suitable for the demanding work required on the ranch. Wanting the best for him and not wanting him to endure another harsh Colorado winter, the ranch owner made the difficult decision to rehome him.

Thanks to longtime DCER supporter, Mary Epperson, we were able to connect with the ranch and welcome Thunder into his new home.
For now, Thunder is in quarantine while he settles in and we evaluate his behavior. He’ll also be seen by our veterinarian so we can better understand his long-term needs and determine what the future holds for this sweet boy.
